"We have an excellent, well-deserved reputation. Over 94 percent of our customers refer us to family and friends."
The thought of moving can sometimes send you into a real panic but not if you know a company that cares about your possessions as much as you do. Two Men and a Truck ® is just that company.
Alan Touart, opened the field in Georgia for Two Men and a Truck ® in December of 2000 with just two trucks; currently there are more than 100 trucks in metro-Atlanta. During his high school and college years Alan was a mover. After receiving his degree, he joined the corporate world and was involved in 15 to 17 corporate moves. When he decided to go to work for himself, Alan researched several options and decided to join the Two Men and a Truck ® franchise system.
Two Men and a Truck ® began when CEO and founder Mary Ellen Sheets' two sons started moving people in an old pickup truck for extra spending money while in high school. To attract customers for her sons' business, Mary Ellen placed an ad in a local shopping guide that read, "Two Men And A Truck," and included a simple graphic of two stick men in a truck cab to catch readers' attention. Little did the family realize that the "cute little logo sketched by 'mom' would lead to a nationally recognized logo for the Movers Who Care ®."
Owning a franchise carries a huge responsibility to uphold the company's reputation. Two Men and a Truck ® is very different than your typical moving company. They are a cut above the rest, striving for higher standards, morals, and level of integrity. All movers are full-time professionals that are carefully chosen by the management team. They never use day laborers or even hire part-time help. Background checks are completed for everyone. "We promote from within here and allow our employees to grow with the franchise," Alan states. One of Alan's drivers was recently promoted to customer service representative. All Two Men and a Truck ® employees are trained to work efficiently, carefully and most importantly, professionally. These are practices that are not found at many companies, much less at moving companies. This is the only way Alan knows how to operate. "The purpose is to be a role model in our industry by upholding our core values," he said.
Being the best is important to Alan. Using a balanced score card approach, he measures how his company is perceived by the community in which he serves. There are five areas he specifically measures Customer Service — each customer is given a rate card to complete and mail back to Alan, rating all facets of the move: Operational Excellence — reviewing how his company's total revenue and market share compare; Learning and Growth — offering opportunities for regional training, Stick Men University ®,Fiscal Fitness, completion of online training and certification and participation in the Safe Driver program; Community Involvement and System Citizenship — Alan reviews his company's charity hours and positive media placement.
"We have an excellent, well-deserved reputation. Most of our customers refer us to family and friends. We want to meet and exceed each customer's expectations by custom tailoring our services to match their needs. Our approach is to make each and every move go smoothly and be as cost efficient as possible. How do we do this? Communication, training, efficiency, and hard work. Our trained Customer Service Representatives are always happy to assist our customers in planning a move, answering their questions about moving, packing, costs, and scheduling," Alan said. Call Two Men and a Truck ® and find out why they are known as the "Movers Who Care ®."
Two Men and a Truck ® is very involved in their community, sponsoring Roswell High School sporting events and local charities like Toys for Tots, and Clark Howard's Christmas Kids, collecting the toys and delivering them to the Atlanta headquarters. When Hurricane Katrina swept through, Two Men and a Truck ® was there to help; they moved several dislocated families, donated boxes for shipping supplies for the relief efforts, as well as delivering supplies to evacuees. "We feel it is important to give back to the community," Alan said.
